PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a taxicab has struck and killed a man and woman crossing the street in Philadelphia, sending their bodies flying about 100 feet.

Police say the two were crossing a street a couple of blocks from City Hall just after 4:30 a.m. Monday when they were hit. A police spokesman says the impact tossed the victims into the air, and they landed about 100 feet away.

Amanda Digirolomo, 25, of Phoenixville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bryan Botti, 25, of Baltimore, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The 41-year-old taxi driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of chest pains.

Witnesses told police the cab appeared to be traveling at about 50 mph, which police said was twice the speed limit of 25 mph. No charges have been filed.
