FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — RJ Noel threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead Sacred Heart to a 43-19 victory over Division-II Saint Anselm in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.
Noel threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Moses Webb, and a 46-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Dube. Noel was 19 of 34 for 249 yards passing, and scored on runs from the 1 and 3.
Saint Anselm's Yianni Gavalas was 24 of 42 for 206 yards passing with one touchdown. Gavalas threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Monette to pull the Hawks to 27-19 in the third quarter. Connor Caveney blocked the ensuing point-after attempt, and Khaamal Whitaker returned the blocked kick 98 yards to stretch the Pioneers' lead to 29-19.
It was the first meeting between the schools.
