BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox placed Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a sore right shoulder.

The 31-year-old Ramirez missed the previous seven games because of the injury. During his time down, he has taken grounders at first as he attempts to convert from an outfielder to infielder again.

General manager Dave Dombrowski thinks there is a good chance he will play again this season. He said the plan is for Ramirez to go through strengthening exercises.

"Well, I'm hopeful, and the doctor seems to think at this point that this will suffice," he said. "But I don't know that. Do I feel confident? I feel good about it but I wouldn't sit up here and say 100 percent I know that."

Ramirez was more certain.

"Oh, yeah, definitely," he said. "Oh, yeah, you're going to see me at first base before the season's over."

Ramirez is batting .249 with 19 homers and 53 RBIs.

In May, he sprained his left shoulder making a catch and running into a side wall in left.

He hit 10 homers in April, but his power dropped after the injury.

Boston also recalled shortstop Deven Marrero from Triple-A Pawtucket.
