MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Darian Green tied a school-record with four touchdowns to help Ball State beat VMI 48-36 in the opener for both teams Thursday night.
Green rushed for 73 yards and three touchdowns and caught six passes for 74 yards and another score.
James Gilbert ran for 61 yards and two scores and Teddy Williamson added 74 yards rushing. Jack Milas completed 34 of 52 passes for a career-high 338 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals.
Al Cobb was 33 of 47 for 399 yards and three touchdowns for VMI while Brice Tucker ran for 87 yards and a score.
Ball State took a 13-0 lead midway through the second quarter on Green's 4-yard run and a pair of Morgan Hague field goals. Gilbert's 1-yard plunge midway through the third made it 34-10 and Green's 46-yard romp with 4:40 left iced it.
