SALT LAKE CITY — Good news for University of Utah fans: A new poll reveals Utahns pick the Utes to have the best college football season in the state.
The poll, conducted by Dan Jones & Associates, showed 40 percent of Utahns are putting their confidence in the U. to best represent Utah college football this year.
Utah State came in second, with 18 percent of the vote, while the BYU Cougars came in third with just 17 percent of Utahns predicting their success. Despite the fact that BYU is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, only 26 percent of "very active" members of the church picked the Cougars to prevail.

One third of members in that category predicted the University of Utah will have the most success, the UtahPolicy.com survey revealed.
Of members polled who identify as "somewhat active," 33 percent put the Utes on top, while just 9 percent said BYU would be the best local team. Twenty-four percent predicted the Aggies would have the best season.
In terms of "not active" Mormons, 56 percent back the Utes, 22 percent chose BYU and just 5 percent are going in favor of the Aggies.
A quarter of the 500 adults surveyed said they didn't know which team would be the best this year, according to the August poll.
