RADES, Tunisia (AP) — Nigeria won its first African basketball championship and earned a spot in the 2016 Olympics.
The Nigerians beat Angola 74-65 on Sunday in the Afrobasket championship game behind 19 points from Chamberlain Oguchi. Carlos Morais led Angola with 15.
Nigeria joins the defending champion U.S. — which routed the Nigerians 156-73 in the 2012 Olympics — host Brazil and Australia in the Rio field. Angola, third-place Tunisia and fourth-place Senegal secured spots in next year's Olympic qualifying tournaments.
