ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo says $17.2 million in state awards is going to 26 academic medical institutions to train new clinical researchers doing cutting-edge biomedical research.
The awards are administered over a two year period through the Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program. Cuomo says the program is vital to helping New York both attract new researchers and solidify itself as a national biomedical research hub.
More than 86 physician researchers will be trained with this funding in diverse fields, including heart and kidney disease, traumatic brain injury, human cancer genomics, health information technology, population health, and stem cell therapy.
Upstate institutions receiving awards include University of Rochester Medical Center, HealthAlliance Hospital in the Mid-Hudson region, and Westchester Medical Center.
The others are in New York City and Long Island.
