Point Piper scores upset in Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) — Point Piper rallied between horses in mid-stretch to win the $86,880 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes by a half-length in a blanket finish Wednesday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Point Piper ran a mile in 1:35.89 and paid $62, $27.40 and $10 at 30-1 odds, the longest shot in the field.

Global View returned $10.60 and $4.40 at 12-1 odds, while 8-5 favorite Motown Men was another nose back in third and paid $2.60 to show.

The victory, worth $50,100, increased Point Piper's career earnings to $102,725, with four wins in 15 starts for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
