RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County Health District says the air quality around Reno and Sparks is in the unhealthy range because of smoke drifting in from California wildfires. The Washoe County School District either canceled or moved all after-school activities inside this afternoon. In Las Vegas, Clark County officials have extended an air quality advisory through the end of today.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas judge has decided a jury can see the videotaped confession of a 20-year-old murder defendant in the killing of a mother of four. Erich Nowsch Jr. testified today that he was so "foggy-minded" after smoking marijuana that he didn't know what he was saying. The judge says there's no evidence Nowsch's statement wasn't given freely and voluntarily.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Firefighters say about 20 people and several pets escaped serious injury in a two-alarm fire that damaged two apartments and the attic of a 16-unit building in an apartment complex near downtown Henderson. Two adults were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Investigators blamed the blaze on careless smoking.

UNDATED (AP) -- As a group bidding for an NHL team in Las Vegas waits, a Quebec City group has advanced to the third and what's expected to be final stage of the NHL's expansion bidding process. A person familiar with the process told The Associated Press that the third stage involves the NHL reviewing the company's business plan and revenue projections.
