Brooke Walker ReportingEarlier this week, fire destroyed a Taylorsville home. The family that lived there lost almost everything. This isn't the first time they have defined adversity.
When you consider all the Holden family has been through the last several months, you may call them unlucky. That's all relative; they consider themselves very fortunate.
Burned clothes, blown out windows and melted memories.
"It's surreal, like it didn't really happen."
Ashley Marquardt: "I went to go check on the kids and suddenly I hear my sister screaming fire!
Fourteen-year old Ashley was watching her younger siblings when her little brother got hold of a candle lighter. He tried it out on a piece of paper. It caught fire and quickly spread.
Ashley Marquardt: "I made sure every one was okay, and we called 9-1-1."
Holden: "I feel like we're living in someone else's nightmare, right now."
That nightmare began in December. Holden slipped and fell while taking down Christmas lights. Her four-year old daughter Jessica, found her and called 9-1-1, a move paramedics say may have saved Holden's life.
Holden: "After my December fall, and now this, I feel like I'm blessed to have two girls who are angels and are amazing."
And today, more angels helped out. Word of the situation spread quickly. Neighbors and strangers have dropped off everything from toys to new furniture.
Holden: "I looked around and I was in shock that they have done everything they have done. We're all still alive and we all have each other. Things can be replaced. Memories we still have."
The house is pretty much a total loss, but the family is staying in another duplex, just down the street. And they say because of everyone's generosity, they're actually in pretty good shape right now.
