SALT LAKE CITY — Many readers are looking for great romance without the dirty details, so popular in the booming erotica genre or even a lot of standard fiction. If you'd rather swoon over the emotional nature of romance than the physical, here are the authors, publishers and books to check out.

Also, be sure to follow links to the publisher and author websites to discover all the books available.

Publisher: Shadow Mountain

Local publisher Shadow Mountain, a division of Deseret Book, publishes regular, nonreligious titles that are always clean. They have a line of books called "Proper Romances," a fancy name for clean love stories. Here they are:

1. "A Heart Revealed" by Josi S. Kilpack

"A Heart Revealed" is a thoughtful, hard-to-put-down clean romance set in Regency London. Favorite local author Josi Kilpack takes the familiar high society story and throws in some of the unexpected. When a tragedy befalls Amber Sterlington, the Rage of the Season, she is cast out of London.

Other title: "Lord Fenton's Folly" out October 2015

2. "Longing For Home" by Sarah M. Eden

After her family suffers tragedy in Ireland's Great Famine, Katie comes to America, to a small town in Wyoming Territory where the Irish are not well received. There, amidst the violence and hatred, two men try to win her heart and she has to decide what is best for her future.

Other title: "Longing for Home: Hope Springs," the sequel

3. "Blackmoore" by Julianne Donaldson

Julianne Donaldson's first book, "Edenbrooke," was a big best seller; her second, "Blackmoore," is just as fabulous. Again set in Regency London, this one tells the story of Kate, a high society girl who can't marry the man she loves. So, she flees to the country and the misty, wild estate of Blackmoore where, of course, everything changes.

Publisher: Bethany House

Bethany House is one of the most well-known, successful publishers of Inspirational Romance (Christian based titles). It has hundreds of romance titles in all genres. Here are just a few to get started. Click the link on the name above to see all books.

1. "Love Comes Softly" by Janette Oke

Janette Oke started the inspirational romance genre with this hugely popular book, "Love Comes Softly." Set in frontier/pioneer times, it's a really sweet read about a woman whose husband dies tragically and she quickly marries another to survive. It is the first book in a long series that follows the family. Oke has written many other series and books as well.

2. "Love Unexpected" by Jody Hedlund

Hedlund has several wonderful historical titles, like this hard-to-put-down read. It's 1859 Michigan, in a small town on the big lake. Emma and her brother are looking for work, for a way to survive, when their steamboat is attacked by pirates, set ablaze and sunk. Rescued by the lighthouse keeper, Emma is stuck in the town, all their money and possessions lost. The local preacher suggests she marry the handsome lighthouse keeper, who recently lost his wife and needs help with his young son. She's always longed for a home, but to marry a stranger?

3. "An Uncertain Choice" by Jody Hedlund

Hedlund has also started writing clean romances for teens. "An Uncertain Choice" is the story of Lady Rosemarie, whose parents made a promise at her birth that on her 18th birthday she'd become a nun. A month before her birthday it's discovered that in her parents' will there is a way out. If she can marry before she's 18 then she escapes the vow. But when three noble, handsome knights start competing for her affection, things get complicated.

This is the first book in a series.

4. "Taken" by Dee Henderson

Most of the books on this list are historical romances, which is the most popular form of clean romance, but Dee Henderson, a New York Times best-selling author, writes fantastic contemporary romantic suspense. She has an impressive back list, so you'll have lots to read. "Taken" is about a young woman abducted at 16 and several years later escapes her captors. She runs right to Matthew, a former cop and successful private investigator. Now, it's his job to help her come back to the real world and protect her.

5. "The Lady of Milkweed Manor" by Julie Klassen

Another best-selling, very popular author, Julie Klassen writes historical romance and has an impressive list of published books. In this story, Charlotte Lamb is the daughter of a respected vicar in England in Regency London. She's also pregnant and unmarried. Sent away to hide her shame, she arrives at Milkweed Manor, and must find a way to survive and find her footing in life again.

Publisher: Harlequin Heartwarming Romances

After many letters and requests from readers, Harlequin, known for steamy romances, started a clean romance line called "Heartwarming Romances." These books are based on wholesome values and free from sexual content. Four new titles are released each month.

1. "Two-Part Harmony" by Syndi Powell

Releasing this month, "Two-Part Harmony" tells the story of Sam and Kelly, both country singers; Sam successful and Kelly struggling. When an inheritance makes them joint owners of a farmhouse in Michigan, their lives change forever.

Other titles out in August:

3. "Molly's Garden" by Roz Denny Fox

4. "Promises to Keep" by Shirley Hailstock

Mary Stewart was the queen of romantic suspense in the 1960s and 1970s. She wrote a ton of them, and her writing is beautiful and timeless.

1. "Nine Coaches Waiting"

Start with this one. It's like "Rebecca" and "Jane Eyre" — just a blissful read. Linda Martin arrives at the Chateau Valmy, ready to serve as governess to the young French boy set to inherit the estate and family fortune. There she also meets the handsome, daring Raoul Valmy. But when the young boy's life is threatened, Linda is unsure if she can trust the man she's fallen in love with.
