Andrew Adams reportingA Utah congressional race is getting really dirty in the final days before a heated primary. The creator of an attack Web site is being linked back to Congressman Chris Cannon.

The Web site,Thetruthaboutjason.com, accused 3rd Congressional District challenger Jason Chaffetz of lying and breaking campaign laws. It turns out Chris Cannon's latest financial disclosure form shows a $500 payment to the site's creator. It was listed as "salary."

A Cannon spokesman tells The Salt Lake Tribune the Cannon staff was paying Jason Smith to put up lawn signs. When staffers found out he was running the site, they asked him to stop posting to it.

Smith did again on June 8, and he was asked to take the site down. It's no longer up.

Chaffetz says he doesn't mind there being a "Truth About Jason" Web site, but there didn't seem to be much truth on it.
