In a speech to several thousand Kenyans at an arena in Nairobi, Obama says Kenya isn't perfect but has come far in his lifetime. He's describing an evolution from colonialism and isolation to independence and global engagement.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A car bomb has struck a military vehicle in southeastern Turkey, killing two soldiers and wounding four others. Turkish officials are blaming the attack on Kurdish rebels. It comes a day after Turkey launched airstrikes against Kurdish insurgents in northern Iraq. The Kurdistan Workers' Party says the strikes spelled the end of a cease-fire announced in 2013.

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian President Bashar Assad says he supports any political dialogue to end his country's civil war — even if its effects are limited. But, in a televised speech in Damascus, Assad says any initiative that is not based on fighting "terrorism" will be "hollow" and "meaningless." Assad also acknowledged the Syrian army has given up some areas of Syria, including the northwestern city of Idlib, saying the government has had to "let go of some areas," out of concern for Syrian soldiers.

PARIS (AP) — A Paris police official says officers have opened fire on a car that tried to crash the barricades hours before the final arrival of the Tour de France cycling race. A spokesman for the police union says the car escaped with its two occupants apparently unharmed. The incident took place in the Place de la Concorde, where the cyclists make their final triumphant rounds to conclude the race.
