PROVO — The public will have access to tools and tips to assist them in finding and recording their family history at the BYU Family History and Genealogy Conference later this month.

The conference is open to both experts and beginners, who will have the option to choose from a list of 160 classes covering topics like how to use FamilySearch, and recording and publishing family stories.

"The Work and The Glory" author Gerald R. Lund and "The Cokeville Miracle" filmmaker T.C. Christensen will join Robert Kehrer, the senior product manager of search technologies for FamilySearch, and Lisa Louise Cook, the producer and host of the "Genealogy Gems" podcast as the keynote speakers of the event.

The BYU Family History and Genealogy Conference will take place at the BYU Conference Center July 28-31. Visit the website for the event schedule.

A free open house at the BYU Family History Library will take place the evening of July 29 and a special viewing of "The Cokeville Miracle" will occur the evening of July 30. The movie is open to the public, and those who wish to go can buy $5 tickets in advance.

Those serving in a family history calling for their ward or stake in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can attend the Friday sessions of the conference free of charge. Four breakout sessions will train and instruct family history consultants.

Alongside this family history conference is the myFamily History Youth Camp for youths ages 14 to 18 who want to learn about family history. This conference focuses on helping the youth love family history and become "budding genealogists," according to a Brigham Young University press release.

The myFamily History Youth Camp offers additional activities and classes that aren't offered by the BYU Family History and Genealogy Conference, like a trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake and a dance with the Especially For Youth participants.

Registration can also be completed by calling 877-221-6716 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or by visiting or mailing your registration to the BYU Harman Continuing Education Building (770 E. University Parkway, Provo, UT 84602), which is open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Nonhousing registration will only be available as space permits on the day of the conference.
