INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is playing host to nine other western states' governors and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to try to reach a consensus on regionwide issues such as drought. Sandoval chairs the Western Governors' Association, which is holding its annual meeting in Lake Tahoe today to Friday. The governors will tackle a number of topics, including a newly released report detailing best practices for states to mitigate the effects of drought.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A body found in an Alaska lake has been tentatively identified as a Las Vegas man who went missing after his canoe overturned. Alaska State Troopers say the body found yesterday in Trail Lake has been tentatively identified as 33-year-old Matt Asturi. Asturi's overturned canoe was found April 20, and he was the only known occupant.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's casino regulators are laying the groundwork for what could turn gambling halls into adult arcades to appeal to a younger generation. The Nevada Gaming Control Board held its first workshop this morning to discuss necessary regulations to allow gambling devices that require skill to play. The industry and regulators contemplated in-game purchases and connecting games to social media accounts.
MARKLEEVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell are touring a small California town miles away from a 25-square-mile wildfire near the Nevada border. The two spoke with firefighters in the town of 250 and toured the fire incident command center this morning. The wildfire started with a lighting strike Friday and quickly spread.
