COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Police were sorting out the details Tuesday of several alleged events that led to a SWAT team being deployed and the discovery of several stolen vehicles.

The strange series of events began about 5:30 a.m. when a man called 911 reporting that another man had pointed a gun at a woman and both had run off, said Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Corbett Ford. The brandishing allegedly happened in the area of 3100 E. Creek Road.

The caller, who Ford said has a history of drug abuse, was not cooperative about giving information once officers arrived. As of 10:30 a.m., neither the woman nor the man had been found.

Officers checked surrounding residents while they were there and came across a house where they suspected someone might be inside trying to avoid them, Ford said.

The house was surrounded and a SWAT team was called out. Tear gas was eventually deployed into the house as the SWAT team went through it looking for people. No one was found inside, Ford said.

However, officers did find at least two stolen cars and a stolen trailer in the driveway, he said. A search warrant was being written and executed Tuesday for those items.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
