SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a fraudster who tried to cover his tracks with a fake kidnapping has pleaded guilty in Salt Lake City. Federal prosecutors say Ryan Cook of Highland told investors that his medical recruiting company had $3.8 million in revenue when it had none. Cook at one point drove to the west desert, called one of the investors and claimed that his software developer had been kidnapped by the government. The investor called police.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A former Salt Lake City man investigated in the drug-related death of an 18-year-old from Colorado has been sentenced to 32 years in prison on drug charges. Eduardo De La Cruz was sentenced yesterday in Grand Junction in a plea deal. The Daily Sentinel reports that a prosecutor told the judge that charges are also pending against De La Cruz for a drive-by shooting on February 14 in Kearns that wounded two men.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former Democratic member of the Utah House of Representatives has passed away. KUTV-TV reports Rosalind "Roz" McGee represented Salt Lake City in the Utah House from 2003 to 2008. She died Tuesday at the age of 78. McGee's former position is currently held by Rep. Brian King, the Democratic minority leader.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Valley University is giving students glued to their smartphones a place to call their own: a designated lane for texting while walking. The bright green lane painted on the stairs to the gym is intended as a lighthearted way to brighten up the space and get students' attention.
