Richard Piatt ReportingThe LDS Business College will continue its 110-year tradition in a new location this August. Crews are moving the College from its Salt Lake Avenues location to the Triad Center this week.
LDS Business College has simply outgrown its quaint, homey Avenues location. But it's hoping to keep its family atmosphere in its more business-like new home in Triad 4.
From the quaint campus at the old Ehnis Wall mansion, to the officious Triad Center, this is a big week and a big move for the LDS Business College. It is facing a big challenge with its move, too: to keep the feel of a growing institution, small.
Stephen Woodhouse, President, LDS Business College: "What we have here is what we're going to take down there. So LDS Business College isn't just a place, it's something that really resides in our hearts."
This move requires a team of people to move a lot of books, thousands of them. The crews even developed a kind of bucket-brigade type operation to make the job go faster. The books are shrink-wrapped or tucked into boxes for the trip of about a mile. Their new home is much bigger, more inviting, and has the resident librarian thrilled.
Karen Hales, Librarian: "In our old campus, students were constantly drawn to the library, and I think this is going to be an even more inviting place for them to come."
LDS Business College has been located north of 4th East and South Temple for 44 years. For some, there is a little nostalgia about moving. But growing at 5 percent every year, the new digs will meet more students' needs.
Craig Nelson, Vice Pres., Student Affairs: "It will enhance their ability to study and collaborate. It will allow them access to downtown businesses. TRAX is right outside our doorstep."
This new place will allow the college to expand comfortably as well, but they're still not forgetting their roots. In fact, Wednesday, groups will haul the remaining books here with Handcarts.
