ORANGEVILLE, Emery County — Two roads were closed to traffic in Emery County after heavy rain caused flooding Wednesday afternoon.
State Route 29 was closed from several miles northwest of Orangeville to Joe's Valley Reservoir after flooding and debris made conditions dangerous there, the Emery County Sheriff's Office reported.
Cottonwood Creek, which runs parallel with the road in some places, was overflowing, the agency said on Facebook.
S.R. 29 was opened shortly after 6 p.m. Motorists were advised by the sheriff's office to "use extreme caution" and avoid the road if possible.
In Orangeville, the city's Main Street bridge was closed because of similar flooding concerns shortly before 5 p.m.
The sheriff's office issued an emergency call to residents in Castle Dale, asking them to keep an eye on their property and call if they need assistance. Enormous swaths of standing water could be seen at various locations in both Orangeville and Castle Dale early Wednesday evening.
Anyone who needs police assistance or notices significant flood damage can call the Emery County Sheriff's Office at 435-381-2404.
