HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Military pilots will be using the skies over Hill Air Force Base and the surrounding area for extended hours next week.

The base has announced that fighter wing pilots will be flying nighttime missions running Monday through Saturday.

"Local residents may hear F-16s flying during the night hours as pilots continue to sharpen their night-time combat flying skills," said Nathan Simmons, a base spokesman, in a prepared statement.

The training missions will run periodically between 8 a.m. until just after midnight. Nearby residents may notice more aircraft noise than usual.

"The (pilots) limit their night operations to what is required to remain proficient in night-flying training," Simmons said.

The aircrafts' maintenance and "operational agility" will also be examined as part of the extended training, he said.
