KANAB — A former Kane County sheriff's corrections officer has pleaded guilty to having sex with a teenage boy.
Tyler C. Fox, 29, pleaded guilty Thursday to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, and unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a class A misdemeanor.
Additional charges of sexual abuse of a minor, dealing in materials harmful to a minor and unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old were dismissed.
Police say Fox began exchanging messages with the boy, a high school student, over Facebook and by text message, arranging to meet up for sex. The boy's father found the messages on his son's phone and began messaging Fox while posing as his son. Fox responded with a nude photo, according to a court documents.
Fox told investigators he had sent nude photos to the boy on three occasions and messaged the teen to convince him to meet for sexual activity, according to the statement.
At the time of Fox's firing and arrest, the sheriff's office stressed that the case was not related to his employment as a corrections officer. Fox was transferred to Washington County's jail and later posted bail.
Fox will be sentenced Aug. 27.
