ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Officials say Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College plans to eliminate positions as the school tries to balance its budget and make up an expected shortfall in state dollars.
The Asheville Citizen-Times (http://avlne.ws/1GjUujM ) reports in a board meeting Monday, A-B Tech president Dennis King reviewed steps the school was taking to make up a $1.7 million shortfall in the upcoming fiscal year. The state funds the college based on student enrollment, which has dropped by about 4 percent.
The plan includes eliminating the positions of six employees. The college eliminated another four positions through attrition. The college has also reduced department budgets by 2 percent and closed a child care center.
Officials have asked Buncombe County to restore $2 million that was cut from the school's budget two years ago.
