The popular Republican's name has been discussed as a potential candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Harry Reid, or as a vice presidential candidate. The governor told reporters on today that an announcement will come in the near future.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Several Nevada bills that grabbed headlines this spring are dead after failing to pass before the Legislature adjourned. A proposal requiring doctors to notify a girl's parents before performing an abortion on a minor was never brought up for a vote in the Senate after passing the Assembly.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 43-year-old convicted sex offender has been sentenced to life in federal prison on a firearms charge, a little more than two years after he was arrested at home in Las Vegas with a boy he allegedly abused. U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said William Oliver Smith was sentenced today after pleading guilty in February to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Washoe County sheriff's deputies are looking for two suspects in a series of burglaries at the pro shop at Montreux Golf and Country Club. The break-ins began about a month ago at the private club that hosts the PGA Tour's Barracuda Open on the southwest edge of Reno. Golf equipment was taken in the burglaries.
