(KSL News) A car plunged 40 feet down an embankment in Little Cottonwood Canyon today. Police say two men drove off the road on purpose.

The car landed upside down near the water. The men were apparently trying to commit suicide, according to an officer at the scene. He says they were screaming "We want to die" when officials tried to save them.

Lenny Bruno of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department said, "When we got down to them they were very combative. Neither of them wanted to be taken into custody. They were cutting themselves."

At one point the men were so combative officers had to use a Taser on one of them. Both were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
