WIMBERLEY, Texas (AP) — A rising river in central Texas has prompted authorities to recommend that residents of the small community of Wimberly to evacuate. The nearby Blanco River is flooding its banks and Hays County sheriff's Lt. Jeri Skrocki says numerous water rescues are underway. Wimberley is about 40 miles southwest of Austin.
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — If negotiators finalize a nuclear agreement with Iran, international inspections could include "managed access" to military sites. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, earlier vowed to not allow international inspection of Iran's military sites or access to Iranian scientists. But Iran's deputy foreign minister says there is agreement about managed access. He also says negotiators rejected demands that its scientists be interviewed.
JERUSALEM (AP) — There's a rare bright spot today amid strained relations between Israel and the United States. A senior Israeli official says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked the U.S. for blocking a global document at the United Nations aimed at ridding the world of nuclear weapons. The document had called on the U.N.'s secretary-general to convene the Middle East conference no later than March 2016, regardless of whether Israel and its neighbors agreed on an agenda. Israel doesn't acknowledge having nuclear weapons.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — The latest militant video purports to show a kidnapped Chinese tourist asking Beijing to honor his kidnappers' ransom demands so he can go free. The man was kidnapped by the Taliban in Pakistan a year ago. The video was released today by a militant known to belong to a Taliban splinter group. It couldn't be independently verified.
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — There's a battle in southern Afghanistan between police and Taliban insurgents who have attacked a number of checkpoints, killing at least 10 officers. One official says eight off the ten checkpoints remain in government hands while the fight for two others is ongoing. Police checkpoints are regular Taliban targets as they are often poorly manned and vulnerable.
