HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Marshall University has created a new scholarship for students seeking a degree in education from Carter County, Kentucky.

The scholarship is in honor of Larry Prichard, who was an educator for 35 years before his death.

Prichard's wife donated $101,000 to establish a scholarship in her husband's honor. Larry Prichard received a master's degree in education from Marshall in 1975.

He was superintendent of schools in Carter County, Kentucky from 1997 to 2006.
