DETROIT (AP) — A federal agency says $1.35 million has been awarded to a Michigan HIV/AIDS housing program for extremely low-income persons and families.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the grant award Tuesday for Detroit-based Cass Community Social Services Inc. The department says the grant will go toward continuing to provide 14 housing units for the chronically homeless as well as giving clients supportive services.
The department said in a news release that stable housing is crucial to people who have HIV or AIDS, and that it leads to better health outcomes and fewer transmissions of the disease.
