(KSL News) Fireworks sparked a grass fire on Salt Lake's east bench tonight.
Fire crews quickly put out the fire, which burned near Devonshire Drive and Mohawk Way. They say it could have been much worse.
Dan Andrus, Battalion Chief, Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "Fortunately because of the resident's use of defensible space, the area between their home and the wildland area, the fire was quickly controlled with no property damage."
Residents heard fireworks shortly before the fire broke out. Fireworks are banned in that area.
After tonight, fireworks can't be used anywhere in Utah until three days before the 24th of July holiday.
