RENO, Nev. (AP) — The murder trial for a 74-year-old Sparks man who claims he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot a trespasser will begin as scheduled Monday. The attorney for Wayne Burgarello wants to challenge the state's finding that he's legally competent. but the judge says he's seen no evidence Burgarello is incompetent.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is releasing an updated tax proposal that he says and incorporates ideas from Assembly leaders. It would raise the business license fee to a flat $300 or $500. It raises the rate of the existing modified business tax, as proposed by Assembly Republican leaders Paul Anderson and Derek Armstrong.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The former chief of the disbanded Las Vegas Township constable office is scheduled to appear in court today on a domestic violence charge. John Bonaventura's defense attorney didn't immediately respond to messages about an arrest warrant issued Monday for his client's arrest.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Three shows into her Las Vegas residency, Mariah Carey says bronchitis caused her to cancel a Wednesday night show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. A representative for Carey confirmed that a doctor diagnosed the pop icon with bronchitis. Chris Chambers says Carey will be back on stage tomorrow.
