SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert says he's open to the idea of making medical marijuana legal in Utah. The Republican governor said at his monthly televised news conference on KUED-TV that he wants to make sure science proves cannabis oil carries medical benefits for things such as seizures.

(AP) — Volunteers are planning to fan out this weekend in the rugged hills south of Las Vegas to look for signs of a Utah man who parked his car in a residential cul-de-sac and vanished in December 2009. Red Rock Search and Rescue is organizing a Saturday search for Steven Koecher in the mountains south of Henderson's Sun City Anthem.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Investigators are questioning a boy believed to be responsible for a fire in a West Valley City field earlier this week. KUTV reports firefighters had trouble accessing the field where it was burning Wednesday. It took crews more than an hour to extinguish the fire. The boy's age was not released.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — BYU has hired Guard Young as its next women's gymnastics coach. , Young was an assistant with the Oklahoma men's program for nine seasons during two stints from 2000-05 and 2011-15. The Sooners won four NCAA championships and were the runners-up five times with Young on staff.
