CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say drought and evaporation have dried out a popular lake between Reno and Carson City.
Jennifer Ramella of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says Washoe Lake has dried up and the smaller Little Washoe Lake connected to it has only a bit of water left.
Washoe Lake Park Supervisor Jennifer Dawson says the lake is susceptible to drying out because at its fullest, it's only 12 feet deep.
The Nevada Appeal newspaper of Carson City reports (http://bit.ly/1cAEeNA ) the lake has dried up several times since the state park was established in 1977.
Dawson says a lack of snowpack this winter has left almost no water flowing into the lake.
Washoe Lake is 4 miles long and 2 miles wide when full.
