CHICAGO (AP) — New York Mets center fielder Juan Lagares was held out of the starting lineup for the second straight game due to a slight strain on his upper right side.

Lagares was hurt while making a falling catch against Baltimore. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was to start in center Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs.

"We've got to make sure this thing goes away," manager Terry Collins said. "As I told Juan today, I know how he plays and he only knows one way. If this thing continues to get worse, it's going to lead to a longer period of time. We want to make sure when he gets back in there that he's ready to play like he can."
