Paul Nelson reporting A child fell into a fire pit in Big Cottonwood Canyon this morning.
The family was actually packing up and leaving after a camping trip. But officials say there were hot coals in the fire pit, and the five year-old boy fell in backwards.
Lenny Bruno: "He has burns on his back and left arm."
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Lenny Bruno says the boy has second and third degree burns, so he was flown by Air-Med to the University of Utah Burn Center.
Lenny Bruno: "It's not like falling into a fire. Those are individual coals, they do remain hot. So, he should recover just fine."
Bruno says the parents were visibly upset. He says officials don't believe the parents were negligent, and this is just a bad accident
