METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have traded for a third fifth-round draft choice and selected Georgia cornerback Damian Swann.
The 6-foot, 189-pound Swan was the sixth defensive player taken among New Orleans first eight draft choices. He'll join a unit that ranked second-to-last in yards allowed last season and took much of the blame for a 7-9 record that fell short of the playoffs.
The Saints traded a sixth-round pick this year, as well as next year's sixth rounder, to the Washington Redskins in order to get Swann, who was named AP All-Southeastern Conference second-team second team.
Last season, Swan made four interceptions, which tied for the team lead, and was fourth on the team in tackles with 65. He also had a 99-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
