ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Avenge overcame traffic trouble to win the $78,550 Ultrafleet Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by a head Friday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Avenge ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:14.07 and paid $5.20, $4.20 and $3.
Moons Over Me returned $24.20 and $8.60 at 36-1 odds. Mio Me was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $3.80 to show. She's a Big Winner, the 4-5 favorite, finished fifth.
Avenge was on the rail throughout the race until she tried to find room to run entering the stretch, but was blocked by a wall of horses.
"After I was in the clear, I was OK," Prat said. "I waited to take the lead until the very last moment because I knew she would lug in a little."
The victory, worth $46,980, increased Avenge's career earnings to $126,580, with her third consecutive win on the track's turf course.
