MILAN (AP) — The Vatican's secretary of state says Pope Francis is "very calm" amid revelations of an alleged plot to attack at the Vatican five years ago. Italian authorities say the attack was planned, but never carried out, by Islamic extremists who are also suspected in a bomb attack in Pakistan that killed more than 100 people. The authorities say nine people have been arrested in Italy and nine others are being sought following a decade-long investigation. Some of the suspects are said to have had close ties to Osama bin Laden.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin man has pleaded not guilty to a federal charge that he tried to join the Islamic State terror group. Joshua Van Haften is charged with trying to provide material assistance to a foreign terrorist group. Federal court documents say the convicted sex offender flew to Turkey in August and posted comments on Facebook expressing his desire to join Islamic State extremists. He was arrested earlier this month in Chicago after flying back from Turkey.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Pentagon official says tension has abated over the prospect of Iranian cargo ships delivering advanced weaponry to Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Iranian convoy is now headed back in the direction of Iran. A Pentagon spokesman says he can't be sure where the Iranian convoy is going, but it reversed its original course and is proceeding well to the northeast of Yemen in the Arabian Sea.

BALTIMORE (AP) — A funeral is set for Monday for the Baltimore man who died after being critically injured in police custody. The way for Freddie Gray will be held on Sunday. Gray was arrested April 12 and loaded into a police van. At some point, he suffered an unexplained spinal injury while in police custody. He died last Sunday. Local and federal authorities are investigating the death. Six officers have been suspended with pay.

DETROIT (AP) — Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 46,000 motorcycles in the U.S. because they could stay in gear due to clutches that won't fully disengage. The recall covers certain Electra Glide, Ultra Limited, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Road Glide and Road King models from the 2014 and 2015 model years. The problem was found through customer complaints. Harley reported 27 crashes and four minor injuries.
