SPANISH FORK, Utah (AP) -- Animals lovers in Spanish Fork have won the right to have more pets in their homes.

A change in the city ordinance increases the allowed number of house pets from two to four.

Under the new policy residents can have up to four pets if they get a 25-dollar residential kennel permit, and if they spay and neuter their pets. Any animal violations would result in the loss of the kennel permit.

But not everyone in the city thinks more pets is a good idea.

Assistant City Attorney Christine Johnson says more pets could mean more problems and more cases of animal neglect or abuse.

Spanish Fork City Councilman Matthew Barber says the new ordinance needs to be closely monitored. He's asked for a detailed report of animal infractions and costs associated with enforcing the new ordinance.
