Jon Dunn ReportingDebate over the ReAL Soccer Stadium continues to fuel different opinions. The county council likely won't make a decision for a couple of weeks, but their funding decision is even harder than before.
House speaker Greg Curtis pushed and lobbied colleagues to put the stadium in the city of Sandy, which he represents. The county shows a resistance to the deal and Curtis says maybe the 35-million dollars could used for a new TRAX line to the airport.
"A TRAX line to the airport would be better for people commuting," says one Salt Lake resident.
"The stadium would benefit the whole community," says another Salt Lake resident.
Joe Hatch County Councilman has a difficult decision to make.
"Now they are saying don't do soccer; everything needs to go to light rail," says Hatch.
Hatch says a few days ago he would have voted for the stadium deal because of the money that would be kicked to Salt Lake City.
"Let's get something else, let's get a fifty soccer field up in Rose Park, a light rail spur to the airport. Let's get some money for cultural centers in downtown Salt Lake City," says Hatch.
If the money doesn't go to the stadium and instead goes to TRAX, then it means that other chunks of money for those other projects would not be available.
The council will discuss all this again this coming Tuesday, but likely won't vote until later this month.
