ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A $12.5 million gift from billionaire developer A. Alfred Taubman is helping to fund a building project on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
A groundbreaking event was held Wednesday morning to celebrate the building renovation and the addition of the A. Alfred Taubman Wing. The renovation project is providing start-of-the-art facilities for the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
University President Mark Schlissel told those at Wednesday's ceremony that the project "will help solidify North Campus" as a site for "the arts, engineering, architecture and planning."
The donation is part of a $28 million renovation and expansion at the Ann Arbor school to help students collaborate better using classroom and studio spaces.
