TAYLORVILLE — A man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with the death of a 28-year-old man, police said.

On April 5, police received an anonymous 911 call and when officers arrived on scene, they found a man dead in a Salt Lake City home, according to Salt Lake City police. Michael Ramirez, 28, was pronounced dead at the home near 1200 West and 900 South.

A neighbor told police that Ramirez lived with his mother, Evelyn Chavez, and she rents out the basement. Chavez, said she believes her son was killed for the money is his wallet. The two men grew up together, she said. She last saw Ramirez leaving the house with Munoz the night before he died.

Police named Roberto “Robert” Carlos Munoz, 29, as a person of interest in the case. Photos and a description of Munoz were posted by local media, and Monday afternoon, police received a tip from a citizen who recognized him. Munoz was located by police and taken into custody in Taylorsville.

Munoz has been convicted of misdemeanor charges dating back to 2005 of retail theft, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, giving false information to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence, according to a search of state court records.

Munoz was most recently incarcerated in prison from July 2014 to October 2014, according to a Utah State Prison spokeswoman.
