TAYLORSVILLE — A store employee was robbed at gunpoint and left tied up in a back room Monday, according to police.

Just after 11 a.m., two men went into the Family Dollar Store, 1649 W. 4200 South, and acted suspiciously, immediately raising red flags for the woman working at the store, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

"She said she just knew they were going to do something," he said.

The men gathered several items and brought them to the front counter. They then pulled out a handgun and demanded money from two safes, Hoyal said. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the men tied up the woman with a TV cable in a back room and left, he said.

While the two were allegedly robbing the store, some customers came to the front door. One of the men met them at the door and told them the store was closed and didn't allow them to come in, Hoyal said.

After the men had robbed the safes, they started running through the store and out the back door. Hoyal said they left a trail of loose change that they had stolen and kept dropping along the way. The trail stopped abruptly outside the store, leading investigators to believe the men got into a car.

The first man was described as a black, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighing 300 pounds who went by the nickname "Big Homie," Hoyal said. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a black beanie cap, a blue sweatshirt and sunglasses.

The second man was black, about 5 feet 7 inches and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a black sweatshirt and a gray baseball cap. He was also armed with a silver and black handgun, Hoyal said.

Anyone with information on the men can call police at 801-743-7000.
