CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have passed a gutted version of a public lands bill that was supported by rancher Cliven Bundy but was widely considered unconstitutional. The rewritten bill deletes core proposals and instead says local sheriffs can enter into an agreement to patrol federal lands. It also states that sheriffs are the primary law enforcement officers in unincorporated parts of their counties.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Senate committee has approved a bill that would allow for ride-hailing companies such as Uber in Nevada. The measure would create regulations for so-called "transportation network companies" that allow people to hail a ride using a smartphone. They added an amendment requiring a 25-cent per trip surcharge that would support road construction.
LSA VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas-area tax preparer is accused of making dozens of fraudulent claims on tax returns, totaling more than $870,000. Rosherral Beverly of Clark County faces 66 counts of preparing and filing false tax returns. Authorities say Beverly claimed 66 false or inflated amounts for gifts to charity, job expenses, travel expenses, vehicle expenses, gambling losses, tuition and fee deductions and education credits.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The security fence and gates around McCarran airport has been breached 21 times over the past six years. An Associated Press investigation found there have been at least 268 perimeter security breaches at 31 major U.S. airports over the past decade. Officials at McCarran attribute the problem of people scrambling over or under the fence, or crashing their cars into it, to the airport's proximity to the Las Vegas Strip.
