KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A top economist says a new study shows the University of Tennessee, Knoxville has a more than $1 billion impact on the state.
Bill Fox is the director of UT's Center for Business and Economic Research. He and UT Chancellor Jimmy Cheek will provide details about the study at a news conference at the school on Monday.
UT officials said detailed revenue and expenditure data for fiscal year 2014 was used to complete the impact study.
At the news conference, Fox and Cheek will elaborate on UT's economic impact with details that include: the number of people employed directly or indirectly by the university; the amount of money it invests in the community through payroll and benefits, services and goods; and the amount of money student and campus visitors spend in the community each year.
