Randall Jeppesen and Sarah Dallof reportingOn an unforgettable night for a Saratoga Springs couple, their baby was born in their car on the way to the hospital. The new baby girl just missed sharing a birthday with two of her siblings.
Kamry Huber's parents had an idea she'd be a speedy delivery. Her older brother was born in 23 minutes; his head was already out by the time they made it to the ER.
The baby's mother, Franki Huber, said, "My brother-in-law teased us on the last time. He was like 'Make sure you have that shoelace ready for the next one.'"
So, as soon as Franki Huber's felt strong contractions, she and her husband, Brent, were out the door. Her water broke in the driveway. "I knew we weren't going to make it to the hospital," Franki tells us.
Brent said, "I was scared. Not again, not again, we're going to make it to the hospital. I'm not going to go through this again."
They were less than halfway there when, Franki says, she had no choice. She pushed, and Kamry was born.
"By the time I pulled in and stopped the car, she was holding the baby in her arms and I had to figure out how to dial 911," Brent said."
Kamry spent her first few minutes in an instacare clinic parking lot. Unfortunately, it had long since closed for the night. The 911 operator had Brent wrap Kamry in a shirt and tie the umbilical cord off with one of his shoelaces. And by the time the paramedics arrived, the couple was so calm, they offered to drive themselves the rest of the way to the hospital.
Kamry is the Huber's fourth child. She barely missed sharing a birthday with her brothers. They turned two and four on Tuesday. Kamry's official birth time was 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday.
Doctors say Kamry is a healthy baby but want to monitor her until Friday, just to be sure. The couple says Kamry is likely their last baby.
