CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and scores of supporters have gathered in Carson City to support a bill seeking to reclaim land from the federal government. Bundy's son, Ammon Bundy, says a bus from Phoenix and another from Las Vegas have brought more than 100 people to attend a debate this afternoon on the bill. The proposal is sponsored by Republican Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and would require the federal government to obtain permission to use land within the state's borders.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Labor Commissioner's office says it's finished its annual review of the state's minimum wage and will keep it the same for the year starting July 1. State officials announced today that the rate will remain $7.25 an hour for employees who receive health insurance from their employer, and $8.25 for those who don't. The labor commissioner is also keeping a rule that employees who are paid at or just above the minimum wage must be paid overtime when they work more than eight hours in a 24-hour period.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tourism officials say 3.1 million people visited Las Vegas in February, up nearly 1 percent compared to the same month last year. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority released its latest statistics today showing convention goers boosted the number of visitors despite fewer shows. The agency says the area's hotel occupancy rate, the number of rooms occupied in February, dropped slightly to 84.7 percent.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — State regulators say Nevada casinos won less in February than a year ago with the Las Vegas Strip leading the drop. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported today that the state's casino's won 1.08 percent less than a year ago in February with $916 million total. The amount casinos won from gamblers during the month rose everywhere except the Las Vegas Strip where winnings declined 4.38 percent to $531 million. The state says fees collected by the state in February dropped 1.64 percent compared to a year ago to nearly $58 million.
