SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Weber County man who suffered burns on 70 percent of his body in a weekend fire has died.
Police say 53-year-old John Bingham of Roy died early Monday morning at a hospital in Salt Lake City.
Roy police Officer Matthew Gwynn says that while initial reports indicated Bingham set himself on fire in a suicide attempt Saturday, more investigation showed the fire started first in the garage.
Police say the fire was purposely set and the flames spread to Bingham's body, leaving him with extensive second-and third-degree burns.
The Ogden Standard-Examiner reports that authorities are continuing to investigate.
