(KSL News) Today's rainy weather didn't stop people from getting together to celebrate Memorial Day. Ceremonies were held all over the state to honor members of the military in the past and present.
Memorial services at Fort Douglas began with a march led by a drum corps. After the march, a ceremony honored fallen soldiers and those currently serving all over the world.
Sen. Orrin Hatch spoke and said Memorial Day shouldn't be the only day we support our military. He aid, "Our young men and women and older people too that are serving in the military are, in many respects, preserving freedom all over the world, and they deserve our support. Every day of our lives we ought to be supporting them."
Services were also held in Sandy, where Miss Utah and Utah National Guard member Jill Stevens sang the national anthem. She has performed the song at several memorial services for friends she has lost in battle.
"It is just very fitting on this Memorial Day to look back and remember those memorial services and remember those who have gone before us," Steven said.
At the Hill Aerospace Museum, the Utah Aviation Hall of Fame inducted its 22nd member. Lt. Col. Clifford Jolley was a war ace. His family was present at the ceremony to receive a medal to honor his bravery during the Korean War.
A memorial in Orem's cemetery featured the landing of an Apache helicopter.
