WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting at an apartment doorway earlier this week.
Richard Ray Salazar, 28, of Salt Lake City, was arrested for investigation of attempted murder.
Early Wednesday, police believe Salazar knocked on an apartment door at 3510 W. Parkway Blvd. and shot the man who answered in an area between his shoulder and neck. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition after neighbors called 911 and responding officers found him inside the apartment.
By late Wednesday, police tracked down Salazar to a house in Salt Lake City and arrested him. Officers said there was preliminary evidence that the two men knew each other and that the shooting was not random.
According to Utah state court records, Salazar was found guilty of felony drug-related cases in 2012 and 2011 and was sentenced to prison. He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2003 and sentenced to up to five years at the Utah State Prison, according to court records. In 2005 he was convicted of an amended charge of attempted assault by a prisoner.
