SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Jim Boeheim says he's not about to leave as Syracuse's basketball coach.
The embattled coach spoke to about 700 fans Sunday night at a postseason banquet in downtown Syracuse. He noted that he came to the school in 1962 and "I'm not going anywhere."
His remarks to Syracuse's primary fundraising group for basketball came a day after he skipped a news conference following a season-ending loss at North Carolina State.
Two days earlier, the NCAA sanctioned the university in a report that lambasted the athletic department. Boeheim was suspended for nine Atlantic Coast Conference games next season.
The NCAA also penalized Syracuse for academic, drug and gifts violations committed primarily by the men's basketball team. The school also faces financial penalties, scholarship reductions and five years of probation.
Boeheim has been the Syracuse coach since 1976 and also played there.
