Sam Penrod Reporting Tonight begins several days and nights of Independence Day celebrations in Utah. Parades, concerts and fireworks displays will be going on through next Tuesday. In Provo tonight was the "Stadium of Fire".
Fifty-thousand people attended the celebration. KSL continued its own tradition of sponsoring Stadium of Fire and our own Dick Nourse emceed the event.
Everyone in the crowd had an American flag, filling the stadium with red, white and blue. The first moment of excitement came as four F-16s from Hill Air Force Base flew over. A few minutes later, the army's Golden Knights parachute squad flew over and landed on the football field.
American Idol, Taylor Hicks performed a new song and was certainly the crowd favorite tonight. LeeAnn Womack headlined the show, singing a number of her hits.
The show ended with a fireworks show, kicking off a great start to the Independence Day weekend.
